Amira Willighagen in Maastricht

Amira Willighagen in Maastricht, 2014, 10 years old

On July 12, 2014, Amira showed up in the city of Maastricht in The Netherlands for a long-anticipated appearance. It was to be her first major stage appearance in Europe after winning Holland's Got Talent the previous December. The concert on Vrijthof Square was part of the Andre Rieu 2014 extravaganza and movie Love In Venice.

The story of this appearance begins when, after being shown Amira on YouTube by members of his orchestra, world famous conductor Andre Rieu immediately invited child prodigy Amira Willighagen to come to Maastricht for a masterclass. In this video, you see the actual moment during that masterclass (which had been moved to London) when Andre Rieu corrects Amira's by then well known breathing error (Amira was 100% self-taught, and had not yet won Holland's Got Talent).

All these events were closely followed by television viewers in Holland, as the entire country was by then aware of the rising Dutch singing star and her masterclass invitation, and eager for news of it.

Later, after Amira had won the entire Holland's Got Talent competition, Andre Rieu invited her to Maastricht again, this time to perform in his upcoming show Love in Venice. These Ghetti-images are from Amira's first stage orientation in preparation for that concert.

The Maastricht arena holds 13,000 people. Tickets to such sell-out shows by Rieu go for $500.00.

Here now is the show. The YouTube video of this performance has 40 million views, and is the most watched video of Amira Willighagen on the internet. It has over 12,000 comments, including Amira's own:

Summer 2014, beautiful memory ;-) Thank you, dear André !
