Meher Baba's true samadhi in Meherabad, India |
It is a peculiar fact that while there is only
one true samadhi shrine of Meher Baba containing his remains and which
attracts pilgrims from around the world, there are at least three other
tombs, the other three each being more or less perfect models of the
original.
The first of these is the newest, and best known. It is the
Shrine of the Perfect Man, built by Earl Starcher in the late 1980s in New Mexico.
The next is a model built by Baba's order by three of
his mandali in Mandla, India, in 1940. The story of this tomb is long
and complicated and a sore topic.
And
finally there is one in Nashik, India. It was built by a wealthy man
there, and I do not yet know all the details. They conduct arti there in
the mornings.
