La Wally

In my opinion this performance is the most powerful and emotive Amira has ever given. Here she sings the aria "Ebben? Ne andrò lontana" from the 1892 opera La Wally by the Italian composer Alfredo Catalani. The opera ends with a memorable operatic death in which the main character Wally throws herself into an avalanche.

At her 18th birthday concert in Pretoria in March, Amira said she had known this aria since she was nine years old, but felt that only now did she have the maturity of emotion to perform it. She added that it was her favorite aria ever.

I love watching the face of the conductor at the end, who appears to get totally drawn into the power of the moment with Amira.
