Singing in Swedish

It is traditional for Dutch people to speak several languages. Thus naturally Amira Willighagen gradually added to her repertoire. However, Amira did not even know English when she first performed at Holland's Got Talent. But then she went to work. She now speaks fluently in English and Afrikaans (the language of her adopted country South Africa).

But she sings in more. This is common for classical and classical crossover singers. In total, on her albums, Amira sings in eleven different languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Latin, Swedish, Catalan, and Afrikaans.

Here is a beautiful song Amira sings on her latest album, from a Swedish movie Så som i himmelen (As It is In Heaven). It is titled Gabriella's Song.

Few people outside Sweden know Swedish, so it is hard to judge how good or bad a job she did. But luckily, a Swedish music reactor, Petra Viklund, did a review of Amira's Swedish performance. Petra reacts to the live stage version from the Classics 2018 concert in Pretoria, South Africa.

Apparently Amira did very well. Amira was 14 when she performed this song in Africa.

Note: I was informed that Amira has also sung in Tswana, a South African language native to the Bantu people. And the South African anthem, which she has sung at numerous events, has five languages - Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Afrikaans, and English.
